Sistemas formales, ciclos y pulsaciones No.1 and No.2, 2022, mixed edia collage on Fabriano watercolor paper, 85 x 60 cm

Sistemas formales, ciclos y pulsaciones No. 1 and No. 2  delve into the idea of community and the intricate relationships that shape it. These works are inspired by my great-grandmother's journey to Panama from Barbados, where she faced the harsh realities of a segregated and racist Canal Zone. Amid these challenges, Black Caribbean immigrants in similar circumstances forged connections, building diverse types of communities—formal, recreational, religious, and beyond.

These communities became spaces for sharing knowledge and experiences, creating living systems that were vibrant, diverse, and heterogeneous. Each group pulsed with its own unique rhythm, much like the beating of a heart, symbolizing the dynamic essence of resilience and unity.
